Tom Foolery
January 8, 2007
There is likely no other DJ on Earth given to such a variety of funk moreso than Tom Foolery.

Ralsed in the early 80’s in a North Carolina home where mounds of LPs and 45’s were stacked on spools, Tom got his love for the soulful, melodic and funky honestly. Breakdancing was emerging and b-boy culture was taking root. This new wave of electronic funk inspired a young Tom Foolery to purchase early hip-hop and dance vinyl releases such as Rapper’s Delight, She Blinded Me With Science, and Planet Rock.
From those early moments on, Tom was hooked! In high school, he partnered up with various MC’s and DJ’s to put on live stage shows, enter talent contests, and rock school parties. In college, he continued to explore his range of music by collecting a broad range of music from European Techno to Southern Rock ‘n Roll.
In the mid 90’s Foolery, spent time with crafting his art with the seasoned dj’s at Deep Secret Records. Rocking side by side with British DJ Dan Sheppard and the technically flawless DJ LeMoore (Dan Moore), Tom quickly mastered the sounds of Deep House music and rose as one of the Southeast’s favorite knob twiddlers. Soon after, residencies at Raleigh’s legendary Wicked Smile and other venues quickly followed.
Seeking to evangelize the sounds of House music across the Tar Heel state in the late 90’s, Tom met up with Resonance Project founders Rob Pickering and WKNC Afterhours personality Rob Rousseau. Tom led Resonance Project through succesful CD releases of the “Transmissions” electronic dance music compilation as well as spearheaded one of the largest club nights in North Carolina…Nova! Resonance Project went on to promote a series of legendary SuperNova parties at club NV in Chapel Hill headlining superstar dj talent such as Scott Henry, Charles Feelgood, Sean Cusick, DJ Three, and many more.
During his stint with Resonance Project, Tom was fortunate enough to cross paths with producer/DJ Jon Gerler aka DJ FM. Foolery and FM had a vision of where dance music should go, and hence, HiJinx Records was born. With a love for groovy funk, percussive breaks, and driving bass, these two artists endeavored to create a booking agency and record label the embodied all things fun about dance music.
Since then Tom dropped the first record in Rush Lounge, and turned it into one of the longest running electronic dance music residencies in the state of North Carolina…lasting nearly 3 years! Foolery is truly a pioneer in the southeast music scene, and one of the most endeared DJ’s around. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear one of his legendary sets!
